Krościenko on the Dunajec Commune is located in
the south – east part of the Małopolska voivodeship, in Nowy Targ county. It
boarders with Szczawnica from the east, Czorsztyn Commune from the west and
south, Łącko and Ochotnica Dolna Communes from the north. In Krościenko there
is the seat of the Commune Office. The Commune comprises smaller administrative
units – village counties of Krościenko – Centrum, Krościenko – Zawodzie and
Grywałd, one of the biggest villages of the Krościenko Commune, situated beautifully
at the foot of Lubań in the Gorce Mountains.
The
main part of the village is located along the Wąski Stream Valley flowing to
the Krośnica Stream. Grywałd consists of many hamlets situated high in the
Gorce Mountains, among them Wybraństwo (670m) i Wymyśle (690m). The valley
protected from the wind creates specific microclimate of Grywałd with many
sunny days during a year. Proximity of the mountains and the clean air made
Grywałd a touristic village with good accommodation base. The hamlets Dziadowe
Kąty, Kąty Niwki, Biały Potok – Tylka, Krośnica are located in the valley of
Krośnica river at the foot of Lubań. The lower part of the village is located
at the 969 road, the upper part goes to the Gorce Mountains.
One
of the villages of the Krościenko Commune is Krośnica. It is located 550 – 700
m above sea level. The village was founded in the 16th century, it
was a typical mountain shepherds village, the royal property, belonging, as the
whole area, to the Czorsztyn Starosty. Nowadays the village has about 150
partly wooden houses with 700 inhabitants. Through the village goes a road to
the rafting harbour in Kąty. Krośnica is
a tourist village with many accommodation places and good microclimate. Around
the village there are Gorce Mountains, Czorsztyn Lake and The Pieniny
Mountains.
Hałuszowa
is a small village located 620 – 640 m. above sea level on the north slopes of
The Czorsztyn Pieniny at the foot of Groń (743 m above sea level). The village
was founded in the 17th century and was belonging to the Czorsztyn
Starosty. The citizens of the village were mainly working as shepherds. For
centuries Hałuszowa was, and still is, a small village – nowadays it has about
200 citizens. Hałuszowa still cultivates the Pieniny folklore and traditions, some
of the old, traditional buildings are still well – preserved here. Also in the
village area there was created a reserve
Lasek protecting the natural stand of fir and spruce. The village is situated
close to the Pieniny National Park and offers good farm tourism accommodation.
Krościenko
over the Dunajec River Commune has 4615 citizens. It is located beautifully in
a picturesque mountain valley on 57,3 square km, 420 – 500 m above sea level.
The valley goes between Pieniny, Gorce and Beskid Sądecki mountain ranges.
Through the valley, which were for ages used as communication tracts, goes
nowadays country road 969 – Nowy Sącz – Krościenko – Nowy Targ. This
beautifully located commune cut by the Dunajec River is a great base for
hiking, cycling, mountain, kayaking, horse riding, fishing and many other kinds
of tourism. Mountain routes from Krościenko go to, among others, Turbacz,
Lubań, Marszałek, Trzy Korony or Sokolica. In Krościenko ends the route of the
rafting along the Dunajec River, a tourist attraction that shows the beauty of
this unique piece of Poland. Krościenko Commune is definitely prepared for the
multitude of tourists that come here every year all year round. It has good
accommodation base with many private houses, farm tourism houses, hostels and
boarding houses. Krościenko offers something for every season. In winter there
is a T-bar lift for skiiers, a sleigh ride ending with a bonfire; in summer a
swimming pool on Potok Kozłecki and coach rides around Krościenko.
Krościenko
has its own mineral springs on Zawodzie – an area on the right bank of Dunajec.
The waters called Stefan, Michalina and Maria are highly carbonated natural
mineral waters, good for treating pulmonary and digestive illnesses.
All
this, and also the fact that the Commune is situated between three parks –
Pieniny National Park, Gorczański National Park and Poprad Landscape Park,
makes Krościenko a unique place for tourists. Every summer the number of
citizens is four times bigger than usually. The credo of the commune is: 'Pieniny
Krościenko over Dunajec Commune – place of active leisure all year round'.
