Czorsztyn Castle – the castle built during
the reign of Kazimierz the Great about the year 1350. In its violent history
the castle was robbed and besieged several times. Finally, in 1598 it was
captured by Olbracht Łaski, and 53 years later Kostka Napierski – the leader of
the peasants rebellion in the Podhale region – was fighting against his enemies
here. The present look of the castle was caused by the lightning which stroke
the building in 1795 starting a fire. Since 1992 there are conservation works
in the castle done by the Pieniny National Park. You can see the part of the
castle, what costs around 3PLN, but there are no guides provided. From the
upper part of the castle there is a magnificent view of the Czorsztyn Lake, the
Pieniny, the Tatras, and Niedzica Castle.
